Why Timing Matters in Clearance Stock
The clearance stock market in the UK follows predictable seasonal patterns. Retailers clear inventory at the end of each season, creating buying windows where you can pick up stock at 70-90% below RRP. The key is knowing when these windows open and having capital ready to deploy.
Most amateur resellers buy reactively — they see a deal and grab it. Professional resellers plan months ahead. They buy Christmas stock in September when selection is best, stock up on summer clearance in August when prices hit rock bottom, and build fitness inventory in December ready for the January rush.
Timing also affects your sell-through rate. List Halloween costumes in early October and you'll sell at full price. List them on 30 October and you're competing with every other late seller in a race to the bottom. This calendar helps you stay ahead of the curve — buying early, listing early, and capturing the premium pricing window before the market gets saturated.

How to Use This Calendar
1. Plan One Month Ahead
Always buy stock at least 4-6 weeks before you need to sell it. If Halloween is in October, you should be sourcing costumes and decorations in August-September when clearance prices are lowest.
2. Track Clearance Cycles
Retailers typically clear seasonal stock 2-4 weeks after the season ends. January and July are the biggest clearance months. Set calendar reminders to check your suppliers during these windows.
3. Diversify by Season
Don't put all your capital into one season. Spread your buying across multiple categories so you have stock to sell year-round. Use Q1 and Q2 profits to fund Q4 Christmas stock.
4. Build Supplier Relationships
The best clearance deals go to established buyers first. Build relationships with 3-5 reliable suppliers and you'll get first access to seasonal clearance before it hits the open market.
5. Use Data, Not Gut Feeling
Track what sells and when using a simple spreadsheet. After one full year, you'll have your own personalised buying calendar based on real sales data, not guesswork.
